Description
A cozy and flavorful apple cider cranberry sauce perfect for any meal, combining tart cranberries and sweet apples.
Ingredients
¾ cup apple cider or sparkling apple cider
½ cup sugar
½ cup light brown sugar (packed)
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch anise seed
1 pinch salt
1 large apple (washed, peeled, and sliced)
1 cup fresh cranberries
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the apple cider, sugar, light brown sugar, cinnamon, ground nutmeg, anise seed, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugars have dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil.
Add the sliced apples and cranberries to the syrup. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove the lid and continue to simmer uncovered for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cranberries burst and sauce thickens.
Remove from heat. Mash the fruit to preferred texture if desired.
Allow the sauce to cool, then refrigerate to let it set completely.
Notes
Use sparkling apple cider for a slightly fizzy twist.
Adjust sweetness by reducing sugar if preferred.
Mash fruit for smoother texture or leave chunkier for contrast.
