Description
Create a delicious heart shaped pizza with a gooey cheese stuffed crust and tasty Italian seasoning.
Ingredients
pizza dough for 1 pizza
1/4 to 1/2 cup kitchen-ready tomatoes
8 ounces low-moisture mozzarella cheese, shredded
15 to 20 pepperoni slices
7 to 9 sticks of string cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
1 tablespoon olive oil
cornmeal for the crust
Instructions
Combine salt, oregano, and basil to make Italian seasoning and set aside.
Shred mozzarella cheese or pull into small chunks if grating is difficult.
Unwrap 7 sticks of string cheese, cut one stick in half for two shorter pieces.
Prepare heart-shaped pepperoni using cookie cutter or knife and scissors techniques.
Roll out pizza dough carefully into a large circle or irregular shape.
Sprinkle cornmeal on work surface and prepare to transfer pizza.
Place dough in the center of surface, arrange string cheese sticks in a double V heart shape.
Preheat oven to 425ºF with pizza stone or sheet pan inside.
Cut and fold dough to stuff the crust around the string cheese, seal tightly.
Brush olive oil evenly over the stuffed crust.
Spread tomatoes inside pizza dough and sprinkle Italian seasoning.
Add shredded mozzarella evenly over the pizza, then arrange heart-shaped pepperoni on top.
Transfer pizza to oven using stone or sheet pan.
Bake for 13 to 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Remove pizza from oven and rest 2 to 3 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use extra string cheese if needed to fill the heart shape.
Carefully seal dough to prevent cheese leakage.
The pepperoni shapes may shrink and look more uniform when baked.
If no pizza stone, a sheet pan with light cornmeal works well.
The irregular shape is fine due to the stuffed crust structure.
